Chinese Internet users are calling on consumers to boycott Carrefour, which they accuse of supporting pro-Tibetan independence groups seeking to disrupt 2008 Beijing Olympics. These days, young people in several cities are protested outside and inside local Carrefour. The latest great event happened in Hefei, the capital city of Anhui Province of East China.
Some elementary school students protested outside the Carrefour in Anhui International Shopping Center Tuesday afternoon after school. They hold a poster saying “Oppose France. Oppose Carrefour. Shopping here is shameful. Support the Olympics.”
Here are some photos of the scene.
Here are some other photos which show some middle school students are signing in a poster saying “Love Our China! Oppose Carrefour. Oppose Taiwan and Tibet Independence.”
Friday evening the situation went intenser. Some university students and college students joined in. Students from Anhui University, Anhui Medical University, Anhui college of traditional Chinese medicine and Anhui Agricultural University protested outside Carrefour. But few of students from the university I am studying and living in, one of China’s top 10 universities, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) went there to join in the protest.
Thousands of young people went to the Carrefour, standing in the square in front of Anhui International Shopping Center.
Some young people went into the Carrefour and called on people not to buy in this French super market. Some young people even stepped on French flags. But everything there was in order.
